The Shegava River is a small river, a left tributary of the Struma River, flowing within the municipality of Kyustendil. Its length is 10 km and flows into the Struma near the village of Rajdavitsa. Despite its short length, Shegava forms a picturesque canyon in the Konyavska Mountain, ending near the village of Bunovo. The area is sparsely forested and predominantly karst, which predetermines the beautiful rock formations. Within the riverbed there are karst springs, which are used for water supply through a pumping station. In the past, mills functioned along the river.
The canyon of the Shegava River is extremely picturesque. It is over 200 m deep with vertical rocks, forming high interesting shapes. Many of them have received names such as Shegavski ritli, Samotnico, Kamilite, Plochata, etc. There are several caves in the canyon: Galabarniko, Belovashtitsa and others. The riverbed is also uneven and gutters, boilers, falls can be observed in it. TD "Osogovo" has marked the trail, it is accessible, but the transition is not easy.
