The church "St. Petka ”in the village of Penkyovtsi is late medieval with a serious renovation during the Revival. The first church, built in the XVI - XVII century, was a small one-nave, built of crushed stone, welded with mortar. Its interior has been completely painted, but today only fragments are preserved. During the Ottoman rule it was covered with earth, and during the Renaissance it was dug and expanded again. Then the present-day polygonal building was built, which was completely painted on the outside and inside in 1867.
In 1971 the church "St. Petka ”has been declared an architectural and artistic cultural monument of national importance.
In the twentieth century, the church did not function for a long time. In 2016, it was opened for services, and in 2017, the Penkov Monastery Revival Foundation was established to raise funds and restore the monastery, which probably once existed.
The church "St. Petka ”was probably a monastery temple. It is located in the village of Penkyovtsi along the road to Trun. It consists of an old one-nave church and a western polygonal building attached to it. In the Middle Ages it was completely painted, but only fragments have survived. During the Revival it was painted inside and out. Revival frescoes are considered an exceptional example of church art, but they are not in good condition and need restoration. The polygonal western facades are characteristic only of Transko and Breznishko, probably influenced by the West.
The church is functioning and the locals are raising funds to restore the monastery.
