The fortress is accessible from the north, from the village of Bozhenitsa. Archaeological excavations have established that the place was inhabited in prehistoric times, but the V-VI century's first fortifications date. The fortress reached its heyday in the XIII-XIV centuries when the outermost fortress wall was built. Today the fortress walls have been partially restored, and most of the fortification remains undiscovered. Of particular interest is the rock church carved into a high rock inside the fortress. The altar and the nave of the temple, carved in the rock itself, are well preserved.
