Rabisha Lake is the oldest tectonic lake in Bulgaria, with an area of 3.25 km2 and a depth of 10-15 m. It is located in northwestern Bulgaria, in Vidin District, between the villages of Topolovitsa and Rabisha, at the northeastern foot of the Rabishka mound.
The lake is stagnant - the water collected in it does not flow naturally to the surrounding plains and valleys. This is an interesting and rare natural anomaly. It was formed as a result of displacement of the earth layers, which formed a local basin, subsequently filled with a significant amount of crystal clear water with a sweet taste and no breath.
According to legend, in the lake lives a giant monster - Rabbi, with the body of a man, the head of a bull and the gills of a dolphin. The most common of them says that Rabbi is the child of a huge dragon, which was buried in one of the halls (Landslide) of Magura. After the dragon's death, Rabbi moved to the lake, and since then people around him have heard a terrible roar, at night when he goes hunting for large domestic animals, or to collect his blood tax (the most beautiful girl from the village that the villagers left him every year). Legend has it that the monster Rabbi fell in love with one of them, married her and they still live in the lake. The sound of Rabbi's torture seems to be still heard throughout the area, mostly in foggy weather. The truth is that this loud roar is due to the night bird of the heron family, named "Big Water Bull". It winters in the Mediterranean, and in our lands it flies in March and flies away in September-October. During their breeding season, males make loud sounds resembling the mooing of a bull…
Whether you believe in myths or legends, it is worth visiting Rabishko Lake because of the ideal conditions for surfing, swimming, fishing, camping and recreation that it offers. Its fish wealth includes: carp, silver carp, grass carp, pike and catfish. An interesting fact is that in the lake there are impressive catfish weighing over 300 kg.
It is located near the exit of the Magura cave, and next to the lake there are pieces of ceramic vessels left from the missing village of Milovan.
