Description
„Belmužijada” is an economic and tourist event dedicated to Belmuž, and is held in the first week of August. Belmuž is a traditional Svrljig specialty made of young sheep's and cow's cheese and sifted flour, which is served hot. According to some interpretations, belmuž was named after white cheese and because it was more often prepared by husbands, because a strong male hand is needed to constantly turn the mixture in the cauldron. Belmuž is on the list of intangible cultural heritage of Serbia. The program of the event also includes accompanying events such as the bagpipe festival, the selection of the most beautiful shepherdess, home-made crafts, old Svrljig dishes, pastoral games and a cultural program. A rich music and entertainment program is always prepared for the visitors, from local vocal performers of original songs, folklore from Svrljig, Nis, Bulgaria, bagpipers from our country and surrounding countries, to concerts of famous singers and groups.
