Breznik Municipality is a local administrative structure serving the population and the territory of 35 settlements. The main areas of work are administrative services, civil status, local taxes and fees, garbage collection and disposal, municipal roads, social activities and more. A significant event is the annual traditional practice Surova, which is organized on 13 and 14 January.

The Survakari tradition in Bulgaria and the Pernik region, in particular, is preserved in the family and clan, at home and the institutional level. Since 2004, based on the preserved traditional practice Surova, a municipal festival Surva has been organized in Breznik. Besides him, in almost every village, a ritual travesty and home tour are organized. The Survakars make their costumes and keep them in their homes. Very often, the Survakari return to their native villages, especially for the ritual. In its traditional form, the Surova ritual complex was performed only by unmarried men, but nowadays, all kinds of men and women and children participate.

The Municipality of Breznik cooperates with the leaders of the Survakar groups and the neighbouring municipalities. A schedule of all events is prepared so that visitors can observe the practice.

On the territory of Breznik municipality, there are over 30 sites of architectural and historical heritage, incl. churches, monasteries, schools, houses and various monuments.
